Stocks opened higher on Monday as a softer U.S. dollar helped boost crude oil and other commodity prices and, potentially, earnings of export-oriented U.S. companies.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 31.21 points, or 0.32 percent, to 9,896.15. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 3.57 points, or 0.33 percent, to 1,075.06. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 9.17 points, or 0.43 percent, to 2,148.45.
