Stocks fell on Monday as investors booked profits in financials after a two-month run-up and news of several share offerings heightened worries about their dilutive impact on current shareholders.

SAP's reassuring comments limit tech losses

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 154.92 points, or 1.81 percent, to close unofficially at 8,419.73. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 19.80 points, or 2.13 percent, to 909.43. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> shed 7.76 points, or 0.45 percent, to 1,731.24.
