Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Donald Trump, went on CNN Monday morning and sparred with anchor Chris Cuomo for 35 minutes. Trump frequently called the network “Fake News” and various Trump associates have attacked the network.

Conway, who hasn’t been as prominent a public figure in the administration in the past weeks, came out swinging in defense of the President after a Sunday New York Times story once again resurfaced allegations linking the Trump campaign to the Russian government. White House advocates like Conway will be all the public gets to see on television Monday, the White House announced their press briefing will be off-camera.

On Sunday the New York Times reported that the President’s son, Donald Trump Jr., met with a Russian lawyer with Kremlin ties to discuss information that could be detrimental to the Hillary Clinton campaign. Trump Jr. verified the Times’ report in a statement Sunday, but said no fruitful information came from the meeting.

Trump Jr. offered two statement over the weekend, the first was before the Times knew about the meeting’s Clinton connection. When confronted about looking for dirt on Clinton, Trump Jr. changed his statement. Trump Jr. acknowledged he was looking for dirt, but didn't get any.

Conway appeared on Cuomo’s show “New Day” to defend Trump Jr. and his father, but eventually covered a wide range of issues in an interview that stretched much longer than originally planned.

Cuomo pushed on Conway to admit that at the very least the meeting didn’t look good and that the optics of Trump Jr. changing his story were bad .

“There are big implications when you change your story like this. Second of all, even if it is true, whether or not it was good information, Kellyanne, doesn't mean it was a smart move to take a meeting with a Russian-connected person who was going to give you negative information about your opponent. That could create huge legal issues. You know that,” said Cuomo.

Conway felt that the story about the meeting was much ado about nothing.

“Let's focus on what did not happen in that meeting,” she said. “No action taken. Nothing.”

Conway often tried to change the subject, but Cuomo remained dogged to stay on Russia. Conway also took some potshots at CNN during the interview.

“I admire your moxie, sitting there with that CNN logo right near you talking about credibility issues ,” said Conway.

Conway also brought up a story in The Hill about former F.B.I. Director James Comey possibly having classified information in some of the memos he wrote, but didn’t disclose. Cuomo slammed her for using a Hill report based on anonymous sources, after the Trump administration has railed against such sourcing.

The interview went on long enough that Cuomo told Conway her people were asking to cut it off, but Conway went on.
