The New York Police Department (NYPD) released bodycam footage of a civilian shooting that took place in October in New York.

The incident shown in the half-minute video footage took place on Oct. 22 at 5:30 p.m. EST on West 143rd Street in Hamilton Heights located in the upper Manhattan area, ABC affiliate Eyewitness News reported. Two NYPD officers are seen responding to a call for Paris Cummings, a 27-year-old man who was reportedly attempting suicide.

In the clip, the officers are seen walking up to and knocking on the apartment door of Cummings. After the door swings open, the camera turns to the silhouette of a man holding two knives. “How are you doing?” one of the officers is heard saying before realizing that Cummings is armed. After a surprising exclamation, the officer repeatedly tells Cummings to drop a knife, a warning that he continues to ignore.

“Put the knife down. Put the f------ knife down,” the officer yelled, as Cummings started charging at the officers with the knives. The officers are seen retreating out of the apartment into the corridor again, all the while telling Cummings to get rid of the weapons in his hand.

When Cummings refused to oblige, one of the officers shot him in the leg. Almost immediately, Cummings is seen buckling and falling on the floor, which is when the video wraps up. Although the department said that the officers immediately began performing first aid on the victim, the abruptly ending video does not provide any evidence to corroborate that fact. NYPD also said that emergency services were alerted almost immediately after the shooting took place.

Cummings was rushed to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries after he suffered a single bullet wound in the leg, Newsday reported. After he recovered, he was indicted on charges of attempted murder and assault of a police officer.

The officers involved in the case, and as seen in the footage are 11-year veteran Alvin Pizarro and rookie Gino Guerra, according to reports.
