Not everyone thinks Rihanna is a fashion icon, though she was honored with the 2014 Fashion Icon award at the CFDA Awards show in New York earlier this week. The 26-year-old turned heads in a sheer dress made of Swarovski crystals—and little else.

Talk show host Wendy Williams offered her opinion on the singer’s daring outfit during her television program. While she commended Rihanna on her terrific body, Williams said, “As far as I’m concerned, she’s totally inappropriate for walking out of the house with this outfit on.” The audience seemed to agree, as mostly everyone clapped. “You know this is the kind of outfit that when you invite all your friends over and you’re hosting your down-low sex party, then you wear this outfit, and you smoke your blunts out of a cigarette holder, and you walk around like you own the joint. But you don’t walk out of the house like this. And here’s the thing- since when is public nudity OK?” In the video below, Williams starts talking about Rihanna at the 6:18 sec mark.

Rihanna wore a custom Adam Selman sheer gown adorned with more than 200,000 Swarovski crystals, and little else. She paired the look with a matching head scarf and gloves. While she didn't cover her chest with pasties, she did wear a beige thong to show some kind of modesty.

At the CFDA, Rihanna was presented with an award for Fashion Icon by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. "I can compensate for all of my weaknesses with fashion," the beauty said during her acceptance speech. "Fashion should never be frustrating, it should be fun."

But while Wintour may consider Rihanna a fashion icon, Williams does not. “Rihanna is a risk taker I don’t really consider her a fashion icon. I consider her a risk taker and there’s nothing wrong with that,” the 49-year-old television personality said.
