Singer Blake Shelton and actor Ryan Reynolds, like many of their peers in the industry, tried out the “Bottle Cap Challenge” – the recently viral Twitter trend – on Wednesday, and failed at it spectacularly.

The challenge requires the participant to kick off the cap of a bottle, all the while trying not to topple it over. The cap is first loosely placed or slightly screwed on top of a bottle, which can either be sitting on top of a leveled surface or in the hands of another individual who is helping out the participant. Most of the videos of the challenge performances uploaded under the hashtag “BottleCapChallenge” were shot in slow motion to intensify the action and make the clips appear more dramatic.

Although the challenge looks simple enough it is anything but. A range of kicks can be used to fulfill the challenge including the sidekick and the spinning wheel kick, which is a reverse roundhouse kick. Hence, apart from excellent foot-eye coordination, training in martial arts is an added advantage. Regardless of the difficulty level, a host of celebrities from all parts of the world, including fighters, athletes, musicians and actors have been giving it a go since the end of last month.

Shelton – one of the most recent ones to try his hand at it – failed badly at the challenge attempt. The video began with the country star preparing himself to try out the challenge in an outdoor space, with a Smithworks Vodka sitting on a table. He sized up the bottle, got into position and delivered a sidekick. The bottle, along with the cap, fell to the ground from the impact of his kick.

The “I Lived It” singer turned the embarrassing video into a hilarious one by picking up the bottle of vodka and cradling it to his chest like a newborn baby. “Oh God, what have I done? What have I done? I’m sorry Smithworks!” Shelton said before running indoor with the bottle.

Shelton was the one who launched the Arkansas-made vodka brand in 2016.

Reynolds was seen in a spoof-like video, uploaded on his YouTube page, giving the challenge a go. The “Deadpool” actor tried to kick the cap off a bottle of Aviation gin (a brand endorsed by him) which was sealed. Predictably, the bottle fell to the ground and smashed into pieces. The actor realized what he had done and fled the mobile home where he was performing the challenge.

Other than this, the challenge was aced by celebrities like actor Jason Statham, musicians John Mayer, Ellie Goulding as well as Designer Errolson Hugh and UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway.

Indian actors like Akshay Kumar also tried the challenge, inspired by Statham.
