Louis Tomlinson is currently mourning the loss of a key member of his family. The One Direction singer’s mother Johannah Deakin died Wednesday morning.

According to Daily Mail, the 43-year-old had been battling leukemia. In a statement released to the publication, Deakin’s doctors found that she was suffering from an aggressive form of the blood cancer earlier this year. Following her diagnosis she was told she would need “immediate and continuous treatment.” Deakin was hospitalized at University College London Hospital during her final months.

She leaves behind her famous son and six other siblings ranging in age from 18 to just 2 years old. She was also happily married to husband Dan Deakin, who was her third husband, for three years. Johannah became a grandmother to the One Direction singer’s 10-month old son Freddie not long ago. Her family was incredibly important to her during her lifetime.

Describing his wife, Dan told Daily Mail she was “incredibly selfless.” He added that she made a habit of helping the less fortunate and was always putting others before herself. In closing, Dan told the publication that these traits combined made Johannah “the perfect wife and best friend.”

Tomlinson’s most recent Instagram post — shared on Nov. 25 — is a photo of he and his mother taken earlier this year. In the caption, he called Johannah “gorgeous.” The singer also took a moment to express his love for his mother. Similarly, Tomlinson’s mother’s final post — also from weeks ago — is of him. She shared a picture of the singer on what appears to be a red carpet, calling him her “perfect boy.”

While Tomlinson, 24, has been mum on social media since his mother’s passing, there has been an outpouring of love and support for the British singer during this sad time. Cheryl Cole, bandmate Liam Payne’s girlfriend, tweeted at Louis that she was “so sorry” to hear of Johannah’s death, adding that she was thinking of and praying for he and his siblings. Zayn Malik, who left the band in 2015, also shared his condolences.

Details about funeral arrangements for Johannah have not yet been made public.
