One of the most iconic slasher films of all times, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” turns 20 years old on Tuesday.

The horror classic, which helped jumpstart the careers of stats Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, came out in theaters on Oct. 17, 1997 and was a surprise hit at the box office.

The slasher film spawned two sequels, 1998’s “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” which saw the return of original stars Hewitt and Prinze, and 2006’s “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” which featured an all-new cast, including Brooke Nevin and Torrey Devitto.

Now, another film is coming, but this time it’s a remake of the original. But while Sony works on a remake of the 1997 classic, which they announced their plans to do back in 2014, let’s take a look at what the original cast is up to now (hint: a lot).

Jennifer Love Hewitt (Julie James)

Though Hewitt started out on “Kids Incorporated” in 1990 and then really started to make a name for herself as Sarah Reeves in the TV series “Party of Five,” this was her breakout film role. She followed it up with another classic, the 1998 teen film “Can’t Hardly Wait.”

After these big shows and iconic movies, Hewitt did a few more films, TV movies and shows before landing her hit series “Ghost Whisperer,” where she played the role of Melinda Gordon for over a hundred episodes. Once the program ended in 2010, Hewitt landed the lead in the TV movie “The Client List,” which lead to a full-on show adaption which she headlined.

Most recently, she played Kate Callahan on “Criminal Minds” from 2014 until 2015.

Beyond her roles in movies and on TV, the 38-year-old star also tackled the music world, releasing four studio albums from 1992 to 2002. There were rumblings about her making a return to music, but, alas, it has yet to happen.

Freddie Prinze Jr. (Ray Bronson)

After starring in this film and then its sequel, Prinze went on to earn his full-fledged teen icon status with 1999’s “She’s All That” with Rachael Leigh Cook. From there, he continued to help bring to life some of the best early-2000s rom-coms, including “Down to You” with Julia Stiles, “Boys and Girls,” “Head Over Heels” and “Summer Catch.”

Then in 2002, he hit the world with his role as Fred in the live-action “Scooby Doo” film, which also starred fellow “IKWYDLS” alum, Gellar. They both returned for the 2004 sequel, as well.

In 2005, he starred in his short-lived comedy “Freddie,” which focused on his main character, Freddie, who was a successful chef. Though the show only lasted for one season, Prinze’s love of cooking was real and he even released a cookbook, “Back to the Kitchen,” 11 years later in 2016.

A few movies later after “Freddie,” Prinze landed a season-long gig on “24” in 2010 and then continued to do a few other shows and movies from there before really getting into voice work and taking on the voice role of Kanan Jarrus in the “Star Wars: Rebels” TV series from 2014 until now.

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Helen Shivers)

Gellar went from one slasher film to the next, going right from this classic to a role in “Scream 2.” From there, she went the more romantic route, with dashes of drama and comedy. She starred in the 1999 rom-com “Simply Irresistible,” before coming out with the dramatic-romance “Cruel Intentions,” also in 1999, which starred fellow “IKWYDLS” co-star Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon. She was also in “Scooby Doo” and its sequel with Prinze.

While these were some of Gellar’s movies during this period, this was also the time of her fan-favorite series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” where she played the titular character. Gellar starred in the hit show from 1996, before “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” until 2003.

After the show ended, Gellar did a few more movies, including more horror ones, like “The Grudge” and its sequel, until she landed the lead role in the one-season series “The Ringer” in 2011. From 2013 until 2014 she was in the comedy “The Crazy Ones” with Robin Williams.

Her most recent role was the voice of Seventh Sister in the same “Star Wars: Rebels” series as Prinze.

Aside from acting, Gellar also co-founded Foodstirs, a cooking and lifestyle company.

Those who have seen “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “Scream 2” will know that this mug is quite ironic.

Ryan Phillippe (Barry William Cox)

The actor caught the movie bug after this role, jumping from film to film, including 1999’s “Cruel Intentions” with Gellar, 2000’s crime-drama “The Way of the Gun” with Juliette Lewis, 2001’s “Antitrust” with Rachael Leigh Cook, “Chaos” with Jason Statham in 2005 and 2010 comedy “MacGruber” with Kristen Wiig.

In 2012, he gave TV more of a chance with a 10-episode role on “Damage” and then gave it another change in 2015 with another 10 episodes, this time on “Secrets and Lies.”

Right after, he landed his current role as Bob Lee Swagger in the TV adaptation of the 2007 film “Shooter.” The series just finished up its second season.
