As a massive thunderstorm swept across the Northeastern United States Wednesday night, many people were left looking for a thunder buddy. Or at least that's what Twitter would lead you to believe.

And many of them may really be looking for someone to kiss in the rain or hide from the thunder on the couch with.

But the term has become popular because of the movie Ted starring Mark Wahlberg as Johnny. In the movie, Wahlberg's full-grown-man of a character is horrified of thunder.

In the thunder buddy scene, his girlfriend, played by Mila Kunis, calls Johnny out for his childish fear, but it turns out that his furry companion Ted is also terrified of thunder, and so the two have formed a bond over their fear, and dubbed one another thunder buddies.

Johnny is sitting in bed cowering in fear, and all of a sudden here comes Ted, who jumps into bed and says thunder buddies for life right Johnny? ... Alright, c'mon, let's sing the thunder song.

They then proceed to sing their special, thunder-warding-off song in unison.

When you hear the sound of thunder don't you get too scared. Just grab your thunder buddy, and say these magic words, the song begins.

As is expected in the raunchy comedy, the next line is a little too risque to print in this publication, but the song ends with the following line:

You can't get me thunder cause you're just God's farts.

The thunder buddy scene was rehashed across Twitter as the thunderstorm swept across the Eastern seaboard Wednesday, with Twitter users like @MadisonElleBeer tweeting from her Apple iPhone about their need for a thunder buddy:

It is POURING! Thunder and lightning scare me so bad. I am in need of a thunder buddy. #downpour, @MadisonElleBeer wrote.
