The fearless 16-year-old Toronto girl who captured the hearts of millions worldwide with her powerful voice has passed away.

Olivia Wise died of brain cancer Monday, reports the New York Daily News. Wise recorded a cover of Katy Perry’s hit single “Roar” that has gained more than 1 million hits on YouTube. The singer was so impressed herself that she responded with her own video to the Canadian teenager in October.

“I love you and a lot of people love you, and that's why your video got to me and moved everybody that saw it,” Perry said in her video. “So I just wanted to send you some love and some light and tell you that I’m thinking about you. Thank you so much. Keep roaring.”

In a statement to CNN, Wise’s parents said their daughter died “peacefully in her home surrounded by the extraordinary love of her family." Perry also remembered the teen in a tweet posted early on Tuesday. “Olivia Wise, I can hear you singing with the angels now. Your spirit & strength has inspired me & so many others... May you rest in peace," she tweeted.
