Kekua was thought to be Te’os girlfriend, who the football player allegedly met in 2009 at game between Notre Dame and Stanford. Te’o was led to believe that she was a student at Stanford, who died late in 2012 from Leukemia. Recent investigations, led by Deadspin, seem to have proven that Kekua was completely made up and never existed. Arizona Cardinals fullback Reagan Mauia, though, told ESPN that Kekua is real, and the two had met in the past. globalgrind.com

If Te’o wasn’t involved in the hoax, it appears that Tuiasosopo was the mastermind behind the entire scandal. The 22-year-old, once a football prospect in high school, is the cousin of former NFL quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo. Te’o claims he first met Tuiasosopo on Nov.24 when Notre Dame played USC. Tuiasosopo reportedly admitted to a friend that he has pulled a similar hoax on others. eurweb.com
  • Diane O'Meara
O’Meara was unwittingly dragged into the hoax as the face of Lennay Kekua. The 23-year-old marketing executive went to high school with Tuiasosopo, but claimed in an interview with NBC’s “Today” that the two weren’t close. Tuiasosopo used pictures from O’Meara’s Facebook to create Kekua’s identity. She even sent Tuiasosopo some personal photos, after he requested them, saying his cousin had been in a bad car accident. The story of Manti Te'o’s fake girlfriend may be the most complicated story the sports world has seen in many years.

Details continue to pour out about the hoax that involved one of the most popular college football players in the country. The Notre Dame linebacker is the big name in the middle of the scandal, but there are several other people that played key roles in the deception.

The cousin of a formal NFL star, a marketing executive in Los Angeles, and a fictitious woman, all contributed to duping the projected first-round draft pick. Now, those that contributed to tricking Te’o are speaking out, and helping provide a clearer picture of what actually happened.

Here’s a description of who was involved, including pictures and profiles, in the elaborate girlfriend hoax:
