Amy Adams is will take the role of Lois Lane in the upcoming 'Superman: Man of Steel' film directed by Zack Snyder.

Adams is an Oscar nominated actress who made her debut in the 1999 black comedy film Drop Dead Gorgeous. Her breakthrough role was in the 2005 independent movie Junebug, playing Ashley Johnsten, for which she received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

According to the Los Angeles Times, director Zack Snyder called her in Paris to offer her the role.

There was a big, giant search for Lois, for us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it, Snyder said.

Other cast members previously named include Henry Cavill as Superman, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

The movie will start filming in August. It will be released in December 2012.
