Crystal Castles, an electronic group that consists of singer Alice Glass and instrumentalist Ethan Kath, has split up. Glass revealed the news on her solo Facebook page Wednesday.

"I am leaving Crystal Castles," she wrote, adding she plans to peruse a solo career. "My art and my self-expression in any form has always been an attempt towards sincerity, honesty and empathy for others. For a multitude of reasons both professional and personal, I no longer feel that this is possible within CC. Although this is the end of the band, I hope my fans will embrace me as a solo artist in the same way they have embraced Crystal Castles."

The band has not posted a joint statement about the split and Kath has not responded individually. Their official website does not have any further information either. As Sterogum noted, it would be difficult to continue Crystal Castles without Glass.

The band formed in Toronto in 2004, NME wrote. The records three studio LPs together-- 2008's '(i)', 2010's '(ii) and 2012's '(iii).’

The duo was praised for their “chaotic” live shows, which sometimes involved stage-diving and destroying instruments, Rolling Stone reported. Throughout their time as a band, they opened for acts like Nine inch Nails, Blur and Depeche Mode. The last show they played was on Oct. 4 in Mexico.

Glass also shared the news on her personal Twitter account through a series of posts. Thousands of distraught fans retweeted the messages. Some of their messages have been posted below:
