Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux just announced their divorce last week, and the estranged couple would soon have to divide their assets.

Fans are wondering what will happen to Aniston’s stunning engagement ring, which was given to her by Theroux before they tied the knot. A source told People that the “Friends” actress will be able to keep ownership of the engagement ring because she got it from Theroux before they got married.

“The engagement ring pre-dates the marriage, and therefore is Jennifer’s separate property regardless of whether it is mentioned in the prenuptial agreement. As long as the parties get married, then the recipient keeps the engagement ring,” the source said.

In 2015, Aniston talked about the huge diamond sparkler, which was estimated at around eight carats. She told The New York Times that it took her some time to get used to the accessory.

“It’s a rock, I know. He rocked it up. It took me a while to get used to it. I’m not a diamond girl. I’m more Indian jewelry and stuff,” she said.

During the same interview, Aniston opened up about her regrets in her past relationship. When she was 25-years-old, she dated a guy who she did not necessarily treat right. Following their split, the unnamed guy died of a brain tumor. Aniston said that God must have sent Theroux to make up for it all.

Unfortunately, Aniston and Theroux have only been married for two years when they announced their separation. A source told People that Aniston and Theroux saw each other one last time on Valentine’s Day, and that’s when they decided that they will make the announcement on Feb. 15.

“Jen didn’t want to announce it for as long as possible, because she wanted to avoid the media attention,” a source said.

The divorce announcement also came just days after Aniston’s 49th birthday, which Theroux did not attend. “Jen hoped that Justin would be low-key on her birthday so people weren’t wondering why he wasn’t there. But that’s not Justin’s style. He wanted to make the announcement so he can live his life,” the source said.
