Will the Galaxy S6 have a flat display or a curved one? Increasingly, signs point to both. The latest evidence was spotted by Dutch enthusiast site Galaxy Club, which found two model numbers on Samsung websites in different countries corresponding to the phone.
Two phones, likely called the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, appeared on two Samsung websites Monday, or rather their expected model numbers did. The model number SM-G920X for the Galaxy S6, was discovered on Samsung’s Finnish website while the model number SM-G925X for the Galaxy S6 Edge was discovered on Samsung’s Swedish website. The pages have since been deleted, but that hasn’t stopped several pundits from grabbing screen shots or cached versions of the pages.
The teaser on Samsung’s invite for a March 1 event shows the silhouette for a curved device though many leaked images suggest the Galaxy S6 will have a flat screen. One such leak suggests the Galaxy S6 will have a design very similar to the iPhone 6.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have also made appearances at the Korean Intellectual Property Office, with Samsung filing patents for the device names, the Korea Herald reported Friday. Apparently, the patent applications indicate a flat display for the Galaxy S6 and a curved display for the Galaxy S6 Edge.
CNet Korea shared a leaked image Thursday, allegedly showing the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge outfitted in protective covers by the popular Korean brand Verus. However, the image cannot be verified. Meanwhile, tech blog SamMobile reported last Friday that the display on the Galaxy S6 Edge could be about 30 percent less curved than that on the Galaxy S6 Edge due to its overall smaller size.
Though Samsung’s plans won’t be confirmed until March 1 when Samsung is scheduled to make an announcement at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Samsung isn't alone in launching two models at once. Apple announced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus together in September. Even Chinese smartphone marker Xiaomi is getting in on the game, having introduced two phablets, the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro in January.
