The 70th Golden Globe Awards ceremony is about to begin on Sunday night, and this year’s show might just have the most perfect pair of hosts in the event's long history. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be co-hosting the awards presentation, and it’s sure to be a magical night.

But why exactly are they going to be such great hosts? For starters, they have been best friends for two decades, and you can’t buy that kind of chemistry anywhere. Vulture has a pretty amazing, in-depth look at their history as friends, but you can check out the highlights in the videos below for proof of their chemistry.

Fey and Poehler first met in an improvisation class at Chicago’s ImprovOlympic in 1993. According to Poehler, Fey first caught her attention by writing a rather risque play about Catherine the Great and horses.

"I remember Tina Fey wrote a play about Catherine the Great f---ing a horse and I thought, 'That lady is hot stuff, I wanna know her,’” Poehler said, according to Newcity Stage.

Watch a great interview of Fey and Poehler discussing their early friendship on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" here.

From those humble beginnings, Poehler went on to join the improv comedy group Upright Citizens Brigade in New York in 1996, while Fey took a job writing for “Saturday Night Live” in the same city a year later.

And then, in 2001, the magic happened. Poehler joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live,” where the two established themselves as a comedic force to be reckoned with. Perhaps their best contributions to the show together? Their time as co-anchors on Weekend Update.

After the pair made names for themselves on “SNL,” Poehler appeared in the hit 2004 comedy “Mean Girls,” which Fey wrote. Four years later, the two would co-star in the hilarious comedy “Baby Mama.”

Now, Fey and Poehler are both the stars of two amazingly beloved situation comedies, “30 Rock” and “Parks and Recreation,” respectively. And both are beautiful, hilarious women who are more than qualified to host the Golden Globes together.

OK, so they’re wildly hilarious best friends with proven on-screen chemistry. But if you need even more proof that Fey and Poehler are going to make excellent hosts for the night’s ceremony, check out the drinking game the pair created for the night’s festivities, as presented by BuzzFeed. It’s pretty amazing.
