Wipro Ltd. (NSE: WIPRO), India’s third-largest IT provider, will double its workforce in Oman as the company sees rising demand for technology services in the region.

Over the next 12 months to 18 months, Wipro Gulf Llc will recruit about 70 people, doubling its current staff strength in Muscat, the company said in a statement Monday. The recruits will be employed by Wipro Gulf LLC, which was established in 2011 in Oman to serve local clients.

“We are seeing a lot of interest from clients in the region for services around business enablement, simplification and analytics,” Mukund Seetharaman, head of Wipro’s operations in the Gulf, said in the statement.

Over the last three years, Wipro has added more than 25 clients in the region, in fields including oil and gas, aviation, engineering, banking and government, within the Sultanate of Oman, according to the statement.

Wipro does not break down its sales figures for the Middle East, but its India and Middle East operations together accounted for about 9 percent of its total revenues in the three months ended June 30.
