The much awaited Xiaomi Mi 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 are expected to release early next year. Hence, both the flagships are expected to land in a fierce competition against each other very soon.

The specifications and features of the Xiaomi Mi 5 and Galaxy S7 haven not been announced officially. However, the rumor mill has spilled plenty of information on both the smartphones. Here is a comparison between both flagships based on purported specifications, features, release date and price:

Display and Design

According to Android Pit, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will resemble its predecessor, Xiaomi Mi 4. The older handset sports a steel band along with plastic construction. However, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is heavily expected to sport a full-metal design like the recently announced Redmi Note 3 budget smartphone.

On the other hand, the design of the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be based on Galaxy S6 and it will not feature major changes. The changes will only come in the form of performance improvements and better display and camera, G for Games reported.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is pegged to feature a 5.3-inch Quad HD display with support for 2560 x 1400 pixels’ resolution. It will be shielded by Gorilla Glass 4 and will carry support for 3D Touch like feature that is available on the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus handsets.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 will be available in two variants with monikers Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, each featuring a 5.2-inch and 5.7-inch display. Both the displays are expected to support 4K resolution, and are likely to be equipped with Clear Touch from Synaptics feature will work like 3D Touch from Apple.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

The Xiaomi Mi 5 could be powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset. Rumors suggest that the 64 GB internal storage variant will come with 4 GB of RAM whereas the 32 GB variant will arrive with 3 GB of RAM. The Xiaomi Mi4 does not feature a microSD card slot. Hence, its successor is also expected to not feature it.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 will be available with different chipset variants for different countries. In the U.S. and China, the Snapdragon 820 will be powering the Galaxy S7. For markets like Korea, Japan and Europe, the Galaxy S7 will arrive with Samsung’s very own Exynos 8890 chip.

The chipset of Galaxy S7 will be coupled with 4 GB of RAM. The metal and glass combination design for Galaxy S7 may yet again result in exclusion of microSD card slot.

Camera and Battery

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to feature a 16-megapixel camera that will carry support for optical image stabilization. On the front, it will come with an enhanced 8-megapixel camera. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is rumored to feature a main camera of 23-megapixel that will feature the all new IMX300 sensor from Sony.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 rumors suggest that it will be coming with a 3,030 mAh battery. Since the Galaxy S7 will be coming with similar design of Galaxy S6, it is likely to sport to a battery of 2,550 mAh or of slightly higher capacity.

Release Date and Price

The Xiaomi Mi 5 and Galaxy S7 flagships are expected to get announced in January and arrive in the market by February 2016, Latin Post reported. Samsung is expected to unleash the Galaxy S7 through its upcoming Samsung Unpacked 2016 event that will be held on February 2016 and it will be readily available for purchase.

Early speculations indicate that the base variant of the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be priced around $315. However, the off-contract or unlocked edition of starting variant of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is likely to cost around $700.
