Xiaomi‘s heavily anticipated Mi Max phablet was launched only a couple of days back. The LG Nexus 5X, on the other hand, was released toward the end of last year. Here's a comparison between the two.

Price, Release Date

Google’s LG-made Nexus 5X can now be purchased at a discounted price of $229.99 in the U.S. via eBay, while the original retail price is $499.99.

The 128 GB variant of the Xiaomi Mi Max is priced at 2,000 yuan (about $307). The 64 GB and 32 GB versions, on the other hand, come for 1,700 yuan (about $261) and 1,500 yuan (roughly $230), respectively.

GSM Arena noted that the Mi Max will hit the store shelves on May 17 in China. As for international customers, third-party retailers like Gear Best, Geek Buying and Honor Buy will be selling this device eventually.

Display, Design

The Xiaomi Mi Max carries a huge 6.44-inch IPS LCD display, aided by 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. The Nexus 5X, meanwhile, sports a relatively small 5.2-inch IPS LCD display, but the resolution is same as the Xiaomi device.

When it comes to exterior design, LG has relied on the tried and tested polycarbonate (plastic) chassis for the Nexus 5X. Nevertheless, a metal frame runs through the edges of the smartphone, giving it a premium look, Tech Radar noted.

According to BGR, Xiaomi has wrapped the Mi Max in a metallic unibody frame. To top it off, this device comes with curved edges.

Under The Hood

The Mi Max and Nexus 5X are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoCs, respectively. But then, Xiaomi handset’s 64 GB and 128 GB models come powered by a slightly advanced Snapdragon 652 chipset.

While the Google device is backed by a modest 2 GB of RAM, Mi Max’s RAM configurations change depending on the internal storage capacity. The 32 GB and 64 GB versions feature 3 GB of RAM, whereas the 128 GB model comes with a 4 GB unit.

On the software front, both handsets run Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box. While the Nexus device gives stock Android experience, the Xiaomi handset uses the latest MIUI 8 on top of Marshmallow.

Camera, Battery

Speaking of camera configuration, the Mi Max sports a 16-megapixel rear-facing snapper and a 5-megapixel shooter at the front. The Nexus 5X, on the other hand, features a 12.3-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel snapper at the back and front, respectively. Both devices come with dual-LED flash.

Batterywise, the Xiaomi Mi Max keeps the lights on by making use of a non-removable 4,850 mAh battery cell. The Nexus 5X, meanwhile, houses an inferior 2,700 mAh non-removable cell.

Additional Features

Both Xiaomi Mi Max and Nexus 5X support 4G LTE connectivity and fingerprint scanner. While the Xiaomi handset comes with a microSD card slot to facilitate expansion, the Nexus device doesn’t. The Mi Max is a dual-SIM handset, while the Nexus 5X comes as a single-SIM model.
