Scott Elrod recently lost his part as Joe Clark on “The Young and the Restless,” but the soap opera star will soon have a new role: being a dad. The actor revealed that he is expecting his first child with his girlfriend, Vanessa.

Fans discovered the news Sunday when Elrod posted a picture of the text messages his mother sent him after learning she would become a grandmother. “Sending love to everyone who has influenced me as it has added to who I have become as my #1 @vanessa_vazart and I have been blessed with a little peanut and now I get the greatest give of all which is to channel that love to him,” the 40-year-old actor wrote on Instagram.

Elrod played Joe on “Y and R” for over a year, but when his character was sent to prison, the actor left the show. His last episode aired earlier this month, and he is already onto the next job. Last week, he showed fans on social media that he will soon move to primetime when he guest stars on ABC's “Grey’s Anatomy.” A photo of his character’s ID card reveals that he is playing Dr. Will Thorpe, who is an Army doctor.

This isn’t Elrod’s first appearance in a Shonda Rhimes-produced drama. Last year, he booked a small role in an October episode of “How to Get Away With Murder” as well. The actor’s fans are hoping that this guest spot lasts longer than his “HTGAWM” role. Elrod’s “Grey’s” episode and his baby are both expected to arrive in 2016.
