A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection to the deadly shooting of a 62-year-old woman outside a gym in Houston, Texas, last week, police said.

Police said they believe the teenager was the one who allegedly shot the victim, identified as Elsa Mikeska, on June 17, according to a report from the Houston Police Department. The teen was with two other men during the incident.

The name and booking photo of the suspect were not released by police because he is a minor. He is currently in the custody of Juvenile Probation authorities and has been charged with capital murder.

Police said Mikeska arrived at the Life Fit Gym on 10570 Fuqua Street before 4:50 a.m. As she left her car and headed to the gym, two of the suspects also got out of a white Chevrolet Suburban and proceeded to call out to her, police said.

Mikeska tried to run to the gym after realizing the three suspects were attempting to rob her, according to police. One of the three suspects then opened fire and shot the 62-year-old.

The suspects got back into their SUV and drove off. It was not indicated if the suspects took any of her valuables. Mikeska was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police also said the descriptions of the three assailants matched those given by a woman who told police three men attempted to steal her vehicle. The suspects were unsuccessful because the car was inoperable.

The incident occurred an hour prior to the shooting of Mikeska and a few miles from the gym where she was gunned down. It was unclear if the three suspects had planned to carjack Mikeska.

The suspects were described as young, Hispanic men in their 20s. Police said they were “clean-cut and skinny” and appeared to be familiar with the area, KHOU reported.

“This remains an active investigation,” the HPD said the statement.

“We are looking for information regarding other individuals believed to be in that Suburban. Our detectives would like to speak with them and hear their side of what happened. We are also looking for the suspect’s vehicle. There are people out there who know where that Suburban is and who else was involved in this senseless violent crime,” they continued.

The HPD is now calling on anyone who may have information or leads tied to the incident to call HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
