1More is back with their latest audio product, the ComfoBuds. These true wireless earbuds are designed to take on the much more expensive Apple Airpods. The ComfoBuds have many of the same features the Airpods have, and even include some new ones that Apple's offerings lack.

ComfoBuds Are Actually Comfortable

It's always nice when a product actually lives up to its name, and that definitely is the case for the 1More ComfoBuds. These earbuds not only stay in surprisingly well compared to other earbuds I've tried, they also fit in pretty darn comfortably.

The big difference here is that the ComfoBuds are designed to go partially in your ear instead of just sitting outside it. This not only helps the buds stay in, but also makes the audio sound like it's simply playing in your head instead of through a tiny speaker.

The Sweet Sound

Speaking of the audio, the ComfoBud audio quality is fantastic. This is not an exaggeration to say that there were times I forgot I was even wearing earbuds and had to stop and remember where the audio I was listening to was coming from. The ComfoBuds also don't suffer from the tinny, flat sound many other earbuds have.

The 1More ComfoBuds have been tuned to be very balanced. There is no heavy bass response here, and audio sounds very natural. These are probably in the top five in terms of best-sounding earbuds I have ever used, and are pushing up on the number one spot.

The Other Features

The 1More ComfoBuds are packed with features, though those features are a little hit or miss. For example, the battery life on the earbuds themselves is at around four hours. This isn't that inspiring, but the earbuds do charge very quickly when put into their carrying case. Assuming you aren't listening to music for longer than four straight hours, this isn't too much of a concern. The case also has a surprising amount of battery life itself given how slim it is, so I really didn't need to plug the ComfoBuds in much while using them.

Like many other true wireless earbuds, the 1More ComfoBuds feature tap controls. Simply touching a finger to the earbud can play or pause music, answer or hang up on phone calls, and more. The issue is the tap controls aren't very responsive, and frequently required multiple attempts to get them to register my tapping. The tap controls are said to improve and expand if you update the earbuds through the 1More app, but we'll talk more about the app later.

One nice feature the 1More ComfoBuds have over the competition is they will automatically pause whatever is playing if one earbud is removed from an ear. The earbuds use infrared sensors to determine if they have been moved. This is convenient if an earbud happens to pop out accidentally or if you want to have a quick conversation with someone.

Mic Check

I've reviewed many different earbuds and headset options in the past and when I call my friends and family to test the microphone, I typically get the same answer again and again: "You sound just fine." That is not the case with the ComfoBuds. Almost everyone I talked to said I sounded quiet or washed out in some way. I was also told that the microphones frequently dropped or would cut out mid-sentence, meaning my voice wasn't being picked up.

App Disaster

The 1More app that can be used to update the ComfoBuds is outright horrible. I've tried updating the ComfoBuds numerous times through the app, and every time it doesn't work. This includes multiple fresh installs of the app. Frequently my phone locked up and started heating up from trying to update the earbuds, and required several minutes of work to get back to normal functioning levels.

Thankfully, the 1More app is not required to use the ComfoBuds. The earbuds can be used with Bluetooth like any other earbuds and support all the apps like Spotify and YouTube. However, the 1More app is required if you want to keep the earbuds up to date and unlock the ComfoBuds' full set of features. It's a shame I can't fully test out the ComfoBuds features because the app is so poorly implemented.

Final Thoughts

If all you are looking for is a great pair of earbuds, the 1More ComfoBuds can not be beat, especially for the price. At only $60, the ComfoBuds have really impressed with their audio prowess, lengthy battery life, and overall physical design.

While the ComfoBuds have many additional features, they do not share the same level of quality that the audio has. The auto-pause feature is nice, but the tap controls are way too unresponsive. The microphone's performance also leaves something to be desired, though it is still serviceable in a pinch. Expect to have to repeat yourself frequently during conversations.

Still, a $60 price tag is easily half the cost of even the first generation Airpods, and is competitive with many other wireless earbud options. However, most of those other earbuds don't have the same audio quality that can be experienced with ComfoBuds.
