KEY POINTS

  • Apple will source antenna from Advanced Semiconductor Engineering crucial for the mmWave 5G
  • This kind of antenna would be used for iPhones and reportedly for 2020 iPad Pro 5G
  • Earlier leaks suggested possible specs and features of the 2020 iPad Pro

Apple introduced the iPhone 11 series, AirPods Pro, and 16-inch MacBook Pro last year. This year the Cupertino company is anticipated to release a new iPhone series (iPhone 12), iPhone SE 2 (iPhone 9), and an iPad Pro 5G. Based on a recent report, Apple tapped a new supplier for the antenna in package technology for the 2020 iPad Pro 5G.

2020 iPad Pro 5G Antenna Supplier

Taiwanese component firm Advanced Semiconductor Engineering will supply the antenna needed for the mmWave 5G of 2020 iPad Pro, according to Digitimes. The company packed and tested Wi-Fi processors and RF for Apple Watches and iPhones. ASE will specifically supply Apple with the flip chip antenna-in-package substrate-based technology, per Apple Insider.

2020 iPad Pro 5G Specs And Features

Nothing is officially revealed yet about the 2020 iPad Pro 5G. It seems that this is the same 12.9-inch iPad Pro that TFI Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted last year. Granting that it is the same device, Kuo predicted that it might house the A14X Bionic chip and advanced mini-LED display with 10,000 LEDs.

The mini-LED display will serve as a bridge between the OLED used in today’s devices and the mini-LED displays in the future. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that 2020 iPad Pro models might feature an advanced 3D sensing system. The feature is reportedly more powerful than the Face ID and only requires a small hole.

The 2020 iPad Pro 5G could be more expensive compared to other 2020 iPad Pro models. The variant would use additional hardware and technology to support 5G.

2020 iPad Pro Specs

Perhaps the major difference between the 2020 iPad Pro models and the 5G variant is the 5G support. In other words, both models will share similar specs and features. Other 2020 iPad Pro specs and features include an iPhone-like camera module at the back.

The 2020 iPad Pro models might feature a triple rear camera setup with an upgraded primary sensor, according to leaks. It might also come with a new ultra-wide angle and Night Mode support. Other reports claim that the third sensor could be a telephoto zoom.
