KEY POINTS

  • Sadibou Sy and Dilano Taylor meet for PFL welterweight title
  • Sy has never missed the playoffs in his PFL career
  • Taylor could cap off his fairy tale PFL run with a world title and a million-dollar purse

If any fight can promise nonstop action from opening to closing bells, it's the upcoming PFL welterweight championship clash between Sadibou Sy and Dilano Taylor.

Both men will meet in one of the most highly anticipated world title contests slated on the main card of the promotion's culminating event on November 25th, and their matchup at the Hulu Theater of the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City should entertain for as long as it lasts.

Ahead of their encounter, the International Business Times weighs in on the chances of both men to walk away with an intricately-crafted hardware and a million-dollar grand prize.

A member of the PFL roster since the beginning, Sy (12-6-2) has yet to miss out on the postseason.

In his 2022 campaign, Sy turned in one of the best stretches of his PFL career, defeating Nikolay Aleksakhin and Rory MacDonald in the regular season to earn a fourth-straight trip to the playoffs.

In the semifinals, the league veteran outclassed the highly-touted Carlos Leal en route to his first-ever PFL finals berth.

Competing in perhaps the biggest fight of his mixed martial arts run, Taylor (10-2) wasn't even really supposed to be in this position.

"The Postman" earned his spot in the 2022 regular season roster after a standout performance in the PFL Challenger Series.

Taylor eked out a split decision win over Joao Zeferino in his tournament debut, but he was knocked out by former champion Magomed Magomedkerimov in his next bout and was eliminated from title contention as a result.

With semifinalist Magomed Umalatov being forced to withdraw from the playoffs, Taylor got the call to step in and face Rory MacDonald in the semis.

Taylor then shocked the world by stopping MacDonald in the first round and earning a spot in the finals.

Prediction: Sadibou Sy def. Dilano Taylor by unanimous decision

While Taylor's improbable run to the finals has been the stuff of fairy tales, he now faces a tried and tested competitor in Sy.

A top contender from the very start, Sy has paid his dues and has finally reached the pinnacle, just one win away from finally calling himself a PFL champion.

2022 will be the year that Sy finally cashes in and gets the big one.
