  • Florian Neuhaus is contracted with Monchengladbach until 2024
  • He will join Bayern Munich in 2022 summer
  • Liverpool were seeing Neuhaus as Wijnaldum's replacement

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus has reportedly ditched Liverpool FC’s interest and has reached an agreement with Bayern Munich.

Neuhaus, who is contracted with Monchengladbach until 2024, will remain at the club for another season and move to Bayern Munich in the 2022 summer for a transfer fee of $49 million, reported German publication Spox.

Moreover, new Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann has played a key role in convincing Neuhaus to pick the Bundesliga champions ahead of Liverpool as the manager comes from the same area of Germany as Neuhaus, according to soccer website Teamtalk.

Neuhaus is a versatile midfielder. Even though his primary position is in the central midfield, he can also play as an attacking midfielder or on the left and this quality of the player has attracted the attention of Bayern and Liverpool.

In the 2020-21 campaign, Neuhaus made as many as 45 competitive appearances for Monchengladbach, including 33 in the Bundesliga, where he netted eight goals and assists. As a result, he earned a place in Germany’s squad for the upcoming European Championships.

It was believed that Liverpool were seeing Neuhaus as a good replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, who is leaving the Anfield side as a free agent. Although Wijnaldum has not signed with a new club yet, it has been reported that he is close to joining FC Barcelona this summer.

"I don’t want to commit myself. FC Bayern is a big club. I also got to know a few guys from Bayern in the national team, who only speak positively about the club. In addition, my dad is a huge Bayern fan," Neuhaus told Spox in an interview earlier this year.

Overall, the 24-year-old Neuhaus has made 116 competitive appearances for Monchengladbach since his Bundesliga debut in 2017. He made his German national team’s debut last year and has so far played five times for them, registering one goal that came in a friendly game against Turkey.
