The California-Mexico border was hit Wednesday morning by an earthquake with a 5.8 magnitude on the Richter scale.

The temblor was felt throughout the southwestern region at about 10:48am local time.

Some occupants of the building in the region have reportedly said the buildings shook for 30 to 45 seconds.

Authorities in Southwest Riverside County have not reported any serious problems.

The epicenter of the quake was 23 miles southeast of Calexico, according to the Caltech Seismological Laboratory.
