A Blackhawk military helicopter crashed in Southern Afghanistan on Thursday, killing 11 people, according to the Associated Press.

Seven of the victims were NATO soldiers, and all of them were from NATO's U.S. contingent, the AP reported

A Taliban spokesman claimed credit for shooting down the helicopter, but NATO says that it is still investigating the cause of the crash.

NATO spokesman Jamie Graybeal said that four Afghan civilians and three Afghan soldiers were among the dead. He offered no details about the helicopter's mission.
