An elderly man in Florida, a registered sex offender identified as Hellmuth Kolb, was arrested for trying to buy an 8-year-old girl for $100,000 at a local grocery store, reports said.

The 85-year-old suspect approached the child's mother while she was shopping at a Winn-Dixie in Port Orange on Aug. 16. Kolb told the woman that her daughter was pretty and he liked her dancing. The woman initially did not suspect anything and said she thought he was just a lonely old man.

However, as the woman left the store with her kid, Kolb yelled from across the parking lot, saying he would like to buy her little girl for $100,000, Law & Crime reported.

The woman immediately reported it to the police, and Kolb was taken into custody. At the time of his arrest, Kolb was on probation for similar issues and was not allowed to have any contact with minor children.

"He needs to be locked up and not allowed to be around our children," the girl's mother said after the ordeal, Wesh 2 reported.

Kolb was listed in the sex offender registry in a 2018 case after he reportedly attempted to buy another girl for $200,000 and kissed her wrist. Charged with false imprisonment of a child under age 13, the man pleaded no contest in the case.

"Mr. Kolb is currently on probation for similar issues, and he is not to have any contact with minor children. Mr. Kolb should have simply stuck to just grocery shopping. Thanks to our SIU, Mr. Kolb did receive a complimentary ride in one of our air-conditioned Police cars, and a free stay at Hotel 92 (VCBJ) Volusia County Branch Jail," Port Orange County Police Department shared in a Facebook post.

We would appreciate any additional information that can be provided." the post concluded.
