Severe weather has hit the southeast of the US with powerful thunderstorms and flash flooding. A mobile home park was evacuated in Alabama, as the weather swept across Mississippi, much of Alabama, a large portion of Georgia and the northwestern Florida panhandle.

The hectic weather started Sunday evening and has continued into this morning. Tragically a 9 year old girl is missing from Yazoo City, Mississippi after she was allegedly swept away by flood waters at around 8pm Sunday evening. The frantic search and rescue operation is being continued this morning, with no success.

Heavy rain continues to pound the southeast of the nation as The National Weather Service has issued flash flood and thunderstorm warnings around the region. Hail and heavy winds also pose serious risks to cause damage.

The biggest threat to people, however, in the affected regions appears to be road safety, as the water levels continue to rise. Commuters are being warned not to travel in flood affected areas.
