KEY POINTS

  • Greenwood and Fernandes have scored in Man Utd's 3-0 win
  • Solskjaer has hailed Greenwood as 'special kid'
  • Man Utd next face Bournemouth later this week

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed Mason Greenwood as a “special kid” after he scored in their 3-0 win over Brighton in the Premier League.

With the latest victory, Man Utd have returned to their No. 5 spot in the table, pushing Wolves to No. 6. While both the clubs are equal on points – 52 – the Red Devils are ahead because of a higher goal difference.

With just six games in hand before the season end, Man Utd are aiming to pip Chelsea for the fourth place, which is the final Champions League qualification slot in the Premier League. As of now, Man Utd are two points behind the Blues.

Greenwood opened the scoring Tuesday at the Amex Stadium before Bruno Fernandes netted a brace in what turned out to be an uncomplicated game for Man Utd. With a display of amazing footwork, Greenwood shot a fine strike past Mathew Ryan in goal, scoring his 13th of the 2019-20 season.

Heaping praise on Greenwood in a post-match interview, Solskjaer said, "The boys played some exceptional stuff. Mason's first goal was brilliant and he played fantastically. He's a special kid, we know when he gets faced up he looks dangerous. His link-up play was great today. He's got a knack of that, he can go inside or outside, he is developing into a fine player. We know we have pace and we want to counter quickly; it was a fantastic goal [the third goal], we are very happy with it.”

“I don't care about making a statement, I know we are a good team. We will recover and then focus on the next one. They have reason to be confident because they are playing fantastically," he said.

"There is quality in that team, our players are fit and we have competition for places now,” added Solskjaer, whose side is next going to take on Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The Norwegian manager has also insisted that the lockdown has helped Greenwood to a great extent.

“We know Mason Greenwood can score goals like this but he is getting stronger, lockdown helped him. He had time to fill out and you can see the benefit from it. He will be exciting to follow,” added Solskjaer.
