AMC Theaters (AMC) said that 70% of its U.S. cinemas will be open as of this week with a series of safety measures in place to protect against the spread of the coronavirus with more theaters opening every week.

The movie theater chain said it will reopen more than 140 cinemas by Friday, bringing the total to 420 theaters open nationwide. The majority of theaters will be reopened on Thursday, which coincides with the release of Warner Bros. “Tenet” in the U.S.

Along with the screening of “Tenet,” AMC said moviegoers can see titles that include: “The New Mutant,” “Unhinged,” “Words On Bathroom Walls,” and “The Personal History of David Copperfield.” New release “Broken Heart Gallery” will premiere on Sept. 11, and the upcoming“Greenland” will be released on Sept. 25.

To mark the reopening of theaters, AMC said it will offer $5 specials on food and beverages with double points for AMC Stub members on tickets and food and drink purchases through the end of October.

“The first two weekends of operations have exceeded our expectations in terms of guests returning to the movies and in terms of their feedback about our extensive AMC Safe & Clean policies and procedures,” Adam Aron, CEO and president of AMC Theatres, said in a statement.

He continued: “Guests returning to AMC can do so knowing that we’ve been in constant dialogue with top scientists and experts in public health and cleaning about how best to reopen our theatres in ways that will be responsible and welcoming.”

To ensure movie guests feel comfortable at its theaters during a pandemic, AMC has implemented a series of safety protocols developed under the advisement of Harvard’s School of Public Health and The Clorox Company.

Safety measures include capacity limits, seat blocking for social distancing, enhanced cleaning procedures using the electrostatic sprayers and high-tech HEPA vacuums, upgraded air filtration systems, mandatory face masks for employees and customers, hand-sanitizing stations, and available disinfectant wipes.
