An American Airlines plane with Hillary Clinton aboard was forced to return to the gate after experiencing mechanical issues over the weekend.

Law enforcement told CNN that flight 2144 from LaGuardia Airport in New York had to return to the gate around 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 17 after ground personnel noticed some mechanical issue on the aircraft.

A separate source confirmed that the former United States Secretary of State was indeed a passenger of flight 2144, CNN reported.

The flight was bound for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, it added.

The flight's pilots said the plane shook, while ground personnel saw smoke and metal debris in the area after the incident was reported.

Passengers of flight 2144 boarded another aircraft and departed for Washington at 4:45 p.m., said Fox 6 Now.

Clinton's representative declined to comment on the matter, while the U.S. Secret Service has yet to return CNN's request for comment.
