‘America’s Got Talent’
Will Johnny Manuel become the next winner of “America’s Got Talent” Season 12? NBC

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 introduced an unassuming male singer named Johnny Manuel on Tuesday night.

The Michigan native told the judges that he has been singing for most of his life. Judge Simon Cowell asked where Manuel regularly sings, and the contestant told them that he got signed by a record label when he was a teenager. Unfortunately, things did not work out for the singer so he decided to go on “America’s Got Talent” Season 12 to hopefully start his career – again.

Cowell, who appeared to be very curious about Manuel, asked what his goal is for joining the hit NBC reality TV competition. He said that he wants to finally be himself and present his music to the entire world. After Cowell wished him a good luck, Manuel positioned himself behind the microphone stand and started singing Whitney Houston’s hit song, “I Have Nothing.”

For the first five seconds of his performance, everyone was quiet in the audience. All four judges were holding their breaths seemingly wondering if Manuel could pull off singing such a massive song. But the minute he reached the high notes, everyone cheered him on. At one point during his performance, Mel B could be heard saying, “Oh, my God!” Host Tyra Banks also cheered for the contestant backstage.

Cowell and Heidi Klum also had huge smiles on their faces while listening to Manuel’s enchanting and powerful voice. After hitting a beautiful falsetto, Howie Mandel looked at Cowell and said, “Wow,” to which Mel B nodded her head in agreement. Manuel received a standing ovation from everyone at the audition venue.

Just like him, several other performers also advanced to the next round of the competition, including Magician Henry Richardson, dog trick dancing duo Sarah and Hero, digital artists Oskar and Gaspar, male singing group Final Draft and more. Unfortunately, none of the contestants featured on Tuesday night’s episode received a golden buzzer from Klum.

By the looks of it, the producers of “America’s Got Talent” Season 12 are saving this footage for the last audition episode airing next month.

“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
