Former heavyweight boxing champ Andy Ruiz Jr. joined Canelo Alvarez’s camp and has received blunt instructions from his new trainer Eddy Reynoso.

On June 1 last year, Ruiz’s boxing career made a 360-degree spin after scoring a major upset TKO win over UK’s Anthony Joshua. The incredible stoppage win saw the Mexican star capturing the WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO heavyweight titles. However, after his historic win, Ruiz went on a two-month bender and partied hard. What’s even worse, Ruiz returned to training camp for the Joshua rematch late and he paid the price during the second fight.

More devastating news broke shortly after Ruiz lost to Joshua in the rematch. He and his head trainer Manny Robles, along with other trainers parted ways. One remark that stood out after the break-up was Ruiz’s lack of discipline and focus.

Things are slowly heading back to the right path for Ruiz as he officially joined Canelo’s camp. Previous reports confirmed that Ruiz is now under the supervision of boxing trainer Reynoso, the man behind the success of multi-division champ Canelo.

Ahead of Ruiz’s heavyweight comeback, Reynoso already emphasized a few things in the training camp. In a recent video interview with Box Azteca (via Boxing Scene), Reynoso said that he was “blunt” about how he wanted things to go down during training and certainly, how he wanted Ruiz to cooperate.

"I was really blunt. I like working with boxers who have discipline. I don't like wasting time. I didn't like losing when I didn't have my current level or a certain prestige and right now I have something to protect, something that cost me to get to where I am. I like working with disciplined people," Reynoso pointed out.

The renowned boxing trainer further discussed Ruiz’s situation and noted that “ with a solid preparation combined with a good strategy and discipline ,” he is confident that the former champ can beat anybody in the division.

"The only thing I asked him to do was to keep himself disciplined. I don't know if he is an undisciplined boxer because he's already been world champion. I think he can beat whoever he is in with,” Reynoso said of Ruiz.

Meanwhile, footages of Ruiz working out and getting in shape to start training with Reynoso recently emerge. With a world-class trainer ready to give him another chance, Ruiz could be on his way to reclaiming the championship belts he once owned.
