KEY POINTS

  • Apple could still offer an affordable iPhone 12 model next year
  • It could replicate the strategy it used with iPhone 11
  • The cheapest iPhone 12 could sport 6.1-inch LCD screen, 4G connectivity support, and dual rear camera

Earlier, tipsters claimed that the iPhone 12 series would have three models, all sporting OLED displays and 5G connectivity support. But, a new report claims that the Cupertino tech juggernaut is planning to launch six new models under the iPhone 12 flagship. Apple could still offer an affordable iPhone 12 model if it drops the OLED and shifts to the LCD technology.

A few days ago, some tech sites reported that Apple is planning to release four new iPhone 12 models in 2020. But, earlier today, a new report claims that it is not just four, but six new iPhone 12 models are arriving sometime in the fall of 2020. There might be a relatively cheaper iPhone 12 variant with a 6.1-inch LCD technology, dual rear cameras, and 4G connectivity support.

This model could be the cheapest iPhone 12 version considering that it has no 5G connectivity support, and it only uses LCD for its display, which is far cheaper than OLED. There were earlier rumors that Apple is dropping the LCD technology for its display. However, the cheaper iPhone 11 sports an LCD, which in terms of sales is doing impressively well.

So, it will no longer be a surprise if Apple continues the same strategy with the iPhone 12 series. The new report also claims that the Cupertino tech titan is planning to launch a couple of 5.4-inch iPhone 12 models sporting OLED screens and dual rear camera sensors. These devices will have 4G connectivity, and 5G connectivity supports, respectively.

Additionally, Apple, according to the report, will release another two iPhone 12 models with 6.1-inch displays. These are the pro variants with triple rear cameras and Time of Flight sensors and will be reportedly available in LTE and 5G configurations. The most expensive model is allegedly the iPhone 12 Pro max variant.

The device is rumored to be available in a 5G-ready variant only with a 6.7-inch display. Earlier reports suggest that the 5G iPhone 12 variants will use Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem. This features backward compatibility, which allows it to smoothly work with previous generation networking standards like 4G, wccftech claims.

This is a massive lineup for the iPhone 12 series. And, if you consider the iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9 by the end of Mar. 2020, we are looking at seven new smartphones from Apple next year.
