  • An analyst claims Apple is on track to announce the iPhone 12 in September
  • The handsets will then hit shelves on October
  • The analyst's sources said Apple will not bundle the iPhones with wired earbuds

Apple is still on track to announce its new iPhone 12 lineup in September this year, an analyst claims.

Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives recently said Apple has overcome delays amid COVID-19 and is on track to unveil the new flagship iPhone 12 lineup later in September this year, iPhoneHacks reported. Ives said the handsets will be launched late in September, and will be hitting shelves all over the world the following month.

Ives said he has “increased confidence” in Apple's timing as well as the “pent up” demand for its new handsets, which will succeed the highly acclaimed iPhone 11 series. The increase in confidence came as a result of the analyst's recent “TMT Asia checks” conducted the past week, despite hearing about delays in Cupertino's production over the past few months.

“Our recent TMT Asia checks over the last week give us increased confidence in the timing and pent up demand around Apple’s much anticipated iPhone 12 product cycle heading into this Fall,” Ives said.

“While we were hearing of some delays over the past few months that would have pushed this key product cycle into the October/November timeframe, we now believe the iPhone 12 will be in late September with the smartphones ready to hit the shelves globally in early October,” Ives continued. He also said all iPhone 12 models will support 5G, and that U.S. models will support mmWave.

No wired earbuds

Ives added that according to his sources, Apple will not ship wired earbuds with the iPhone 12 handsets. The company has been bundling wired earpods with the iPhone since the first handset it released; this is the first time Cupertino will not include wired earbuds with every iPhone purchase.

This has been predicted earlier by noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said the move will increase the demand for Apple's popular wireless earbuds offerings, the AirPods and the noise-cancelling AirPods Pro. And while the decision to stop shipping wired earbuds with every handset could be a good move for the environment, there will be those who won't like it.

Still, it's worth noting that Apple is stepping up its game to promote the AirPods. The company recently launched its Back to School promo, wherein students will be given free AirPods with every eligible Mac or iPad purchase.
