KEY POINTS

  • Apple is expected to release a successor to the iPhone 11 series of handsets
  • The new devices are expected to feature new technologies, better specs and updated features
  • Apple hasn't officially revealed anything about the new iPhones yet

Apple is expected to release a new lineup of iPhones later this year. These will take the place of all existing flagships, and will have new and updated features meant to give all users the best iPhone experience yet.

So far, Apple hasn't officially announced anything with regards to the upcoming iPhone 11 series successors. Some reliable sources have, however, and their predictions and guesses can give consumers a glimpse as to what they should expect from the Cupertino tech giant. Here's a quick rundown on what to expect with the next iPhone flagship series.

Four iPhones

Several analysts, including TF International Securities' own Ming-Chi Kuo, expect Apple to release four new variants of the upcoming iPhone 12 series. These devices differ from each other in terms of specs, sizes and, as expected, prices. Selling prices, however, remain unknown at the moment.

Sizes

The four iPhones consist of one 5.4-inch model, one 6.7-inch model, and two 6.1-inch models. The 6.7-inch model and one 6.1-inch model are said to be higher-end devices that feature a triple-camera setup at the back. The other two models will feature two cameras at the back

Displays

An analyst from Rosenblatt claimed that the 5.4-inch model will feature an LCD display. Others, however, believe that all models in the iPhone 12 series will use OLED displays regardless of size and price.

Design

The new iPhones are expected to feature a new design reminiscent of the iPhone 4. MacRumors noted that specifically, only one of the four will feature an iPhone 4-inspired design. This is still a rumor at the moment, but what's known is that the four devices will feature design changes.

5G Connectivity

Kuo, along with other analysts, say that all four models will be 5G-enabled. This means users can take advantage of faster connectivity and data transfer as long as they are in an area where there's coverage.

Upgraded Cameras

The iPhone 11 series already features the best camera setup of any iPhone to date, but the iPhone 12 series is expected to have an even better camera setup. This setup might include sensor shift stabilization technology, which will work with optical image stabilization to produce great shots taken even when the subject is on the move.

A14 chip

Lastly, the upcoming handsets are expected to come powered by Apple's next-gen mobile processor, the A14 chip. This will bring about faster processing speeds, longer battery life and improved thermal management.
