KEY POINTS

  • A new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro concept video was released on the ConceptsiPhone YouTube channel
  • The concept iPhone 13 features touch-sensitive controls instead of physical side buttons or ports
  • This came in really early as the iPhone 12 series aren't even out yet

While the world waits for Apple's upcoming iPhone 12 series of handsets, a concept designer has released a new video showing what next year's iPhone models could look like – based on the designer's imagination.

A new video uploaded to the ConceptsiPhone YouTube account shows an iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro born out of iOS Beta News' idea. iPhoneHacks found the video first.

Before diving into the details, it's worth noting that Apple has yet to announce the iPhone 12 series of handsets, let alone release them to paying consumers. Videos trying to show how the successors could look, however, have already started appearing on the internet.

That said, the concept iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro both look stunning in the videos. Both have a display that spills over the edges, but the Pro model has its display wrapping around the device all the way to the back.

Here's a quick look at the devices in the concept video.

iPhone 13

First, viewers get a glimpse of how the designer envisions the iPhone 13 would look. The concept iPhone 13 is nearly identical to what the iPhone 12 is believed to look like from the front and back, but the edges feature details that are not found on the iPhone 12 devices.

For one, the concept iPhone 13 does not have physical side buttons or ports. While the device has speaker and microphone grilles, it does not have the traditional physical volume rocker, side button and Mute switch. Instead, all of these are replaced by touch-sensitive controls.

Aside from touch-sensitive power, volume and other controls, the sides also display a few app icons. It's easy to understand that a quick press of any of these will open the corresponding app or feature.

One particular commenter, however, noted that this won't be easy on the user, saying, “If I grab the phone I open 5 apps, activate the flashlight and deactivate the wifi.” Still, the design looks really good.

iPhone 13 Pro

Next, the concept video shows the iPhone 13 Pro as having a curved edge display that wraps around through a major portion of the back. The device has its rear-mounted camera array at the center of the back, straight above the Apple logo.

The device is also physical button-less and port-less. It can be dropped into shallow water without worry and features wireless charging. The video shows it being charged on top of an AirPower charging mat.

The device looks good, but commenters noted that it's only a concept, implying that they usually don't reflect the actual device that goes into production. Nevertheless, the designs look interesting. Those who want to see them can do so below.
