Arsenal is reportedly progressing in signing an attacking sensation dubbed as the “Iranian Lionel Messi.”

Not many are aware that Premier League contender Arsenal is working on securing a seal for Sardar Azmoun, a notable player currently with Russian club Zenit Saint Petersburg. Azmoun is a well-rounded attacking sensation who has played in the 2015 and 2019 AFC Asian Cup, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He has also been compared to Barcelona superstar Messi.

Arsenal is reported to have made contact with Zenit St. Petersburg over the availability of Azmoun.

With an impressive run with Zenit, Azmoun has captured the attention of the Premier League and has been said to have been in the radar of Arsenal for quite some time now. Teamtalk reported that Gunners manager Mikel Arteta’s friendship with former Zenit St. Petersburg star Andrey Arshavin could see Azmoun flying to Emirates Stadium. Arshavin is now in charge of transfers at the Russian side, and the report further stated that the pair have been in talks for a possible transfer move for Azmoun.

It was also reported that Arsenal has been spotting Azmoun since April, but those preliminary talks did not lead to an official agreement. However, a recent translated report from Sport Witness has claimed that Arteta and Arshavin are now closely gauging Azmoun’s situation to see if the transfer could finally come to fruition.

Certain things to consider at this point include how much Zenit would want in exchange for the 25-year-old attacking player. Another notable factor is that Arsenal is still ascertaining whether or not Azmoun would be a shrewd addition to their squad, considering that there could be a huge hole to fill once Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang decides to leave the club.

At the moment, the interest from the Gunners could be assumed to be genuine, but reports said that Arshavin is the man who could help finalize the negotiations between the two clubs.

Aside from possibly signing the “Iranian Messi,” Arsenal has also been linked to another promising player. Recent reports pointed to the Gunners as the only club willing to spend $49 million for the teenage sensation Joelson Fernandes, a Sporting Lisbon star regarded as the “next Cristiano Ronaldo.”

As early as now, Gunners fans are already thrilled over possibly welcoming the Portuguese sensation into the club. There has been no official statement regarding the possible transfer of Fernandes as sources claimed that clubs find his release clause price tag a bit too much for a teenager.
