Arsenal have been linked with a move for Inter's Ricky Alvarez, while there is further speculation about the possible signings of Yann M'Vila and Younes Belhanda as well as the future of Robin van Persie.

After a terrible start, Arsenal finished the Premier League season with a respectable third-place finish.

Arsene Wenger's side barely finished ahead of Tottenham, and that turned out to be an extremely important outcome, as the fourth-place Premier League squad failed to qualify for Champions League with the surprising inclusion of Chelsea, as the 2012 Champions.

The Gunners will be expected to make a more determined effort to win silverware in the 2012-2013 season, and avoid just barely squeaking into the following Champion League.

Here are five players they should target on the transfer market:

Christian Eriksen

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder would be a solid addition to the Gunners. He was named the 2011 Dutch Football Player of the Year, as well as Danish Football Player of the Year. Eriksen has given a solid performance for Denmark in the Euro 2012. There was light speculation that the Gunners were interested the Ajax starlet in April.

Alan Dzagoev

At only 21, the Russian attacking midfielder is already among the most heralded players in Eastern Europe. Dzagoev has a price tag of about £13 million, despite reports that he has six months remaining on his contract. Dzagoev has lit up the competition at Euro 2012, and have been widespread reports that Wenger is interested in adding him.

Daniel Opare

The Gunners were reportedly keen on the 21-year-old Ghana defender in February. Opare had a solid season with Standard Liege in the Belgian League, and Arsenal could use one more defender. Since he's young, Opare could ease into the position behind some of the established veterans.

Matias Suarez

The 24-year-old Argentine has been a Bayern Munich target, but Wenger still has time to swoop in and bring him to Emirates. Suarez plays both forward and winger for Anderlecht, which is ideal for Arsenal, especially considering how Chu-Young Park has basically been nonexistent. Suarez seems like a gamble worth taking based on his quality performances in Belgium.

Yann M'Vila

This should be a no-brainer. Arsenal were reportedly close to adding the 21-year-old French midfielder, but nothing was confirmed. M'Vila is coming off an ankle injury, but is currently fit, and Arsenal should renew talks of adding him to their squad. The Rennes star has received praise from Bacary Sagna and Marcel Desailly, who both hope to see the French starlet play for the Gunners.
