KEY POINTS

  • Man Utd defeated Arsenal earlier this season in the league
  • The two sides will come face to face on Sunday
  • Arsenal have 47 points from 18 league games

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has pointed out Arsenal would have an "unfair advantage" ahead of their Premier League meeting.

Manchester United will travel to London on Sunday to face off against Arsenal in a reverse fixture of their Premier League meeting. The Red Devils defeated Mikel Arteta's side 3-1 earlier in the season at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag will be without his key defensive midfielder Casemiro, who will miss the Arsenal game due to a yellow-card suspension.

Arsenal are at the top of the 2022-23 Premier League table with 47 points from 18 games, while Manchester United have 39 points from 19 games and are placed third on the table.

While a win over Arsenal would cut down the deficit for the Red Devils, the touring side will certainly miss the in-form Casemiro.

"One of our best players cannot play one of the best teams. I don't understand why we had to play today and they didn't, that could make the difference on Sunday. He is a big loss for us," De Gea said.

De Gea's comments came after Casemiro received a fifth yellow card during Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League earlier this week.

Players who receive five yellow cards within the first 19 Premier League fixtures are suspended for one match. In the second half of the Premier League season, the five-yellow limit is raised to 10 and suspensions are increased to two matches.

Casemiro has been in fine form since his move from Real Madrid to Manchester United in the summer of 2022 and is one of the key reasons behind Ten Hag's latest success with the club. The Brazilian midfielder has contributed with a goal and three assists in his last seven appearances for Manchester United in all competitions.

Meanwhile, De Gea also reflected on Manchester United's performance at Selhurst Park and insisted that the focus is already on the next "massive game" against Arsenal.

"It's football. Sometimes you score at the end and sometimes they score at the end. Let's keep going. I think we're doing really well and it's a massive game on Sunday. I think we're a much better team than we were before. We are competing really well, deserving the points, and playing as a team, which is massive. Everyone wants to win, everyone wants to fight for the team," added De Gea.
