NEW YORK (Billboard) - Performing rights organization ASCAP launched a free app for Apple's portable devices Wednesday, allowing its member songwriters and publishers to access their catalog, performance and royalty information.

The app also contains a search function for ASCAP's 8.5 million copyrighted musical works, a nifty innovation targeted at the likes of music supervisors for film, TV and commercials. While the App is initially available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod, ASCAP plans to offer versions for other smart phones.
