Kaitlyn Bristowe may be crying in the Season 11 promo video for “The Bachelorette,” but don’t associate her tears with shame. The upcoming episodes teaser shocked fans by revealing that the star of the ABC series had sex with one of the contestants. However, Kaitlyn wants viewers to know that it’s not that “crazy.”

“The Bachelorette” is only two episodes deep but it’s already gearing up to be the most dramatic and talked about season in the history of the show. While fans will have to wait for an upcoming episode to find out exactly what happens between Kaitlyn and the mystery cast member, the 30-year-old star has opened up about the situation to Nancy O’Dell on Entertainment Tonight.

“I don’t think that’s a crazy thing to sleep with somebody when you’re trying to be in a relationship with them,” Kaitlyn told O’Dell. “I’m a 30-year-old woman and I make my own decisions, and intimacy, to me, is part of a relationship. I don’t know why everyone is so shocked by it.”

Kaitlyn continued that she was “not ashamed” of her actions. Instead, she said that her tears stemmed from being upset that she could have “jeopardized other relationships.”

“I tried to compartmentalize each relationship and be present with each guy, and some went faster than others and some went slower than others,” she explained.

The premise of “The Bachelorette” is for one woman to find her future husband in a group of handsome single men. Although it’s not the norm for one woman to date multiple men at once, a relationship in the “real world” may involve intimacy. That said, the ABC reality show has generally steered clear of “sex.” The Fantasy Suite without cameras is introduced later in the season for a few lucky men, however contestants have never outright said that they did anything intimate. Instead, the stars of the show usually say they used the time to “get to know each other better” and “talk into the night.” That said, last season “Bachelorette” star Andi Dorfman was hit with a mini sex-scandal when runner up Nick Viall told viewers during the “After the Final Rose” special that they “made love” during the Fantasy Suite date.

“I’m not sure why you made love to me,” Nick told Andi when he came face-to-face with her for the first time after the 2014 finale.

Andi called his comment “below the belt,” and said that whatever private thing occurred between them should remain private.

“I didn’t have any expectations of that night,” Nick continued. “But to me, that night was fiancé type of stuff. That meant so much to me and I told you that. It wasn’t … it meant something. It meant the world to me. I’ve had to play that in my mind over and over.”

Andi Dorfman’s fiancé at the time defended her, and Kaitlyn Bristowe also appears to have a strong support system this season. Alum AshLee Frazier of “The Bachelor” Season 17 told Us Weekly that a majority of the Bachelor’s has had sex on the show. “They don’t [talk about it], and I don’t know why,” she said. Courtney Robertson of “The Bachelor” Season 16 had similar feelings. “For me personally, I’m like, you go girl!” she told Us.
