  • Barcelona is reportedly ahead of Real Madrid in bid to sign Spanish prospect Fabian Luzzi
  • Luzzi is on pace to become one of Spain's best strikers
  • Barcelona plans to boost its core around younger footballers

Barcelona and Real Madrid have already placed 16-year-old prospect, Fabian Luzzi, to their respective radars. The race has begun for the Spanish center forward, who is being touted to become one of the best strikers in La Liga in the future. While Madrid is making a strong case to become an ideal destination for Luzzi, it is said that their rivals at Camp Nou are the favorites to land a deal.

According to Jamie Anderson of Express, Barca is on the “driver’s seat” ahead of the Los Blancos and Atletico Madrid as the Catalans map out their plan to shift Luzzi over to Camp Nou.

“Barcelona are in advanced negotiations to sign Rayo Vallecano forward Fabian Luzzi, reports claim. The talented teenager has been training with the club's first-team side during the second half of the 2019/2020 campaign,” Anderson wrote.

“It's claimed the Spanish champions are already in 'advanced negotiations' to sign the 16-year-old and would slot him straight into Franc Artiga's youth setup.”

Luzzi just turned 16 in May but is already being considered as one of Spain’s top talents after making a resounding impression for the country’s youth teams.

Judging from the way he moves at the pitch, it could be assessed that Luzzi’s potential is indeed off the charts. Perhaps one of the most notable games he has played for Spain thus far was when he scored a brace during a friendly match against England in December that resulted in a draw, 3-3. In the aftermath, he was tapped by Rayo Vallecano to train with its first team for the second half of this season.

As with the ongoing developments regarding a looming deal with the Blaugrana, Aaditya Sibal of Everything Barca bared that Luzzi’s parents are set to travel to Barcelona “to meet the club’s representatives and finalize the transfer.”

Barcelona is angling towards bolstering its core around up and coming footballers as evinced by their decision to not renew the contracts of veterans like Arturo Vidal and Ivan Raktic.

“Signing young players over the summer transfer window will give them the opportunity to develop in the club by playing along with some of the best players in the world which will further help them grow into better players who can add value to the club as well as establish themselves in the squad over the course of a few years,” Sibal added.

Luzzi’s teammate, Martin Pascual, is expected to join the scheduled meeting at Camp Nou. Barcelona reportedly is interested as well on the 20-year-old defender, who could be available for a free transfer in the upcoming window.
