An attacker dubbed “new Lionel Messi” has made a shocking revelation ahead of his transfer to Barcelona.

Last month, the Barcelona B team confirmed the signing of Turkish soccer prodigy Emre Demir from Kayserispor via a €2 million ($2.3 million) deal that includes variables and a staggering €400 million ($462 million) release clause.

While speaking to local Turkish media alongside Kayserispor president Berna Gozbasi, Demir discussed how his Barcelona transfer went down, Tribalfootball.com reported.

According to the 17-year-old, his family had to be involved in the negotiations as he’s not old enough to enter any type of agreement with clubs.

Moreover, Demir revealed that his agent didn’t inform him that the “big team” he was about to sign with was Barcelona.

“I had indescribable feelings," Demir said of his Barcelona transfer. “My father dreamed of this too. We were together day and night for a year. When the transfer was happening he got emotional and cried."

“My agent Ahmet Bulut did not tell me what was going on,” he continued. “He called one day and said: 'We're going to Istanbul, you're going to sign for a big team.' As I wasn't old enough to sign a contract, my father and mother came too. Then I saw the name Barcelona on the contract! Mum and dad could not contain their tears.”

Demir is already considered a star in Turkey, having already played more than 30 games for the Turkish side to date, bagging three goals in the process.

Like some of the youngsters who joined Barcelona before him, such as Kays Ruiz-Atil, Demir has also drawn comparisons to former Barca superstar Messi.

Apparently, the teenager and Messi are both magnificent left-footed attackers who can also play anywhere in the frontline.

Despite the bold comparison, Demir insisted in a separate interview that he wants to carve his own path in Barcelona.

“When I started football, I took [Lionel] Messi as an example,” Demir told Fotomac. “I was watching every game. However, I want to be Emre Demir. I'm still at the beginning of the road. I will work harder.”

“I want to show a better Emre Demir by working hard,” he continued. “I would like to meet Messi in Barcelona, but he left.”

Demir is expected to complete his move to Barcelona next summer, but there’s a possibility it could happen as early as January next year, according to reports.
