KEY POINTS

  • Ansu Fatti scored twice in Barcelona's 4-0 win
  • Lionel Messi also scored Sunday against Villarreal
  • Barca next face Celta Vigo in La Liga

FC Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fatti said he'll make every opportunity count after he scored a brace in their 4-0 win over Villarreal on Sunday.

It was Barcelona's opening La Liga match of the 2020-21 season and the side's first since the forgettable 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich at the Champions League last month. With the 4-0 win, Ronald Koeman also began his reign at Nou Camp on a high note.

Fatti started the match against Villarreal alongside stars such as Lionel Messi, Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann. But it was the 17-year-old who stole the show. It took him only 15 minutes after the kick-off to open the scoring before he added another one to his account just four minutes later. Fatti then earned a penalty – all before the half-time break. Messi took the penalty and recorded his first league goal of the 2020-21 campaign.

Speaking at the post-match interview, Fatti admitted that he faces every match with the greatest enthusiasm.

"Every opportunity I get I try to make the best of it. When a striker scores goals, he always wants more. Alba’s pass has been very good and I just had to accompany him. We really want to keep improving, especially in the first half, it’s the way to go. I’m playing alongside the best players and the truth is that I face every game with the greatest enthusiasm. Playing with Messi has been a dream of mine since I was a child. He always helps me and gives me advice," added Fatti, who also played for Seville's youth team before joining Barcelona.

Fatti, who eventually rose through the ranks of Barcelona's La Masia academy, made his senior-team debut last season. In his debut campaign with the Catalans, Fatti made 33 appearances, including 24 La Liga matches and the teenage sensation had scored eight goals.

Barcelona skipper Messi, who wanted to leave this summer, is expected to part ways with the club next season. Fatti, who has also played for Spain's national team, is being talked up as Messi's heir at Nou Camp.

Barcelona will next be in action Thursday when they take on Celta Vigo in La Liga.
