Promotional art from the forthcoming movie “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” has surfaced online. It shows Wonder Woman holding a sword and a shield. Another post says “Star Trek” actor Chris Pine is in talks to play comic book character Steve Trevor, the primary love interest of Wonder Woman.

Gal Gadot will play the female superhero in the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed movie. This promo picture of the character has been posted online by Umberto Gonzalez on his Instagram account. The official look of the actress was previously shared by the director in this picture posted on his Twitter account.

The character will also be getting a solo movie that is set to be released in 2017. According to a report by the Wrap, Pine is close to signing a deal to appear as the love interest, though whether his name will be Steve Trevor has not been confirmed. Also, the actor might not appear until the 2017 "Wonder Woman" movie being directed by Patty Jenkins.

The Hollywood Reporter points out that the Steve Trevor character first appeared in a 1941 comic book. According to the comic book story line, Trevor was a U.S. Army officer who crash-landed on the home world of the Amazons and later fell in love with Wonder Woman. He knows her only as Diana and is not aware that she is the crime-fighting superhero who often helps him.

Pine may not be playing the relatively helpless Trevor of the old comics. The report points out that the latest version of the character shows him to be a member of a paramilitary organization and the character is “an action hero in his own right.”

The report also points out that Trevor has also appeared in the “Wonder Woman” TV series of the 1970s. The character was one of the reasons why Diana left her home world and traveled to the U.S. Diana’s origin story may not be explored in the “Batman v. Superman” movie, but fans may get learn more about the character in the 2017 solo movie.
