Bayern Munich have reportedly made Liverpool FC forward Sadio Mane their transfer target ahead of the 2022 summer window.

Mane is contracted with Liverpool until 2023. The Senegal national is reportedly upset with Liverpool making Mohamed Salah's contract extension a priority. Since the contract talks at Liverpool are "faltering," Bayern Munich are keen to make Mane their "statement transfer," reported Sky Germany.

Though Mane's agent met Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic over the weekend, there was no contact between the Bundesliga champions and Liverpool at this stage regarding a potential transfer, the report said.

When Salihamidzic was asked if there would be a big transfer at Bayern after their 2-2 draw against Stuttgart on Sunday evening, he replied, "Let yourself be surprised. We have to see what is possible and what is not. We have creative ideas."

Liverpool, who have qualified for the UEFA Champions League final and are currently three points behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race, have declined to comment regarding Mane's contract talks, according to Sky Sports.

Mane, who made a $42 million move from Southampton to Liverpool in 2016, has had a fine run in the 2021-22 season with the Reds and also with his national side.

He helped Senegal triumph in the AFCON and coincidentally, they defeated Salah's Egypt in the final on penalties. Salah and Mane once again faced off at the international level during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Mane was once again on the winning side as Senegal qualified for the multi-nation event, while Salah's Egypt were eliminated.

Salah has scored 30 goals for Liverpool in all competitions in the ongoing campaign, but Mane is not far behind. The Senegalese winger has netted 21 goals and four assists in 47 appearances for the Anfield side across competitions. Overall, Mane has netted 118 goals in 265 matches for Liverpool.

If Liverpool fail to reach an agreement with Mane soon, the Reds will look to cash in on the 30-year-old-forward, who has a current market value of $86 million, according to Transfermarkt.
