  • Eddie Murphy will reprise his role as Axel Foley

  • The directors are excited about the project

Production for the highly anticipated “Beverly Hills Cop 4” appears to be back on track with a screenwriter working on the first draft of the script. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah gave an update about the film in a recent interview and expressed their excitement about working with Eddie Murphy.

“Beverly Hills Cop” is a highly successful franchise that started in 1984. The story is about a freewheeling, loudmouth Detroit cop and his unusual ways of investigating crimes. The third installment from the franchise was released in 1994.

In an interview with Digital Spy, El Arbi and Fallah confirmed that they are still involved with the project and added that the script is being written right now. According to the directors, they should have the first draft or at least the first treatment with the story soon. They are also looking forward to working with an “icon” like Murphy, who will be reprising his role as Axel Foley.

Talks about “Beverly Hills Cop 4” have been ongoing for the past several years. Although El Arbi and Fallah were hired to work on the project a few years ago, they got busy with another cops movie “Bad Boys for Life.”

Murphy on the other hand has been busy with movies like “Dolemite Is My Name” and “Coming 2 America.” He will also start filming “Triplets” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito soon. But, the one movie the fans are eagerly waiting for is “Beverly Hills Cop 4.”

In a previous interview with Collider, El Arbi and Fallah said that everyone asks them about their upcoming movie starring Murphy. The directors said that this is a good thing because they really want to do this film and they consider it “an honor” to be able to do it.

Although there is a lot of excitement for the upcoming film, there are also some concerns, Screen Rant reported. One of the issues with the franchise has been that the sequels have not been able to get the same amount of humorous scenes as the first film.

“Beverly Hills Cop 4” doesn’t yet have a release date. Details about the production and the release may be announced once the script is ready.
