  • A report said Shelton popped the question days before they shared the news
  • Shelton reportedly asked Stefani's father for permission before proposing

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are now engaged after dating for five years. The couple shared the good news to their fans Tuesday with heartwarming posts on social media.

“Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!” Shelton captioned an Instagram photo of him and Stefani sharing a kiss as she showed her ring.

“@blakeshelton yes please!” Stefani captioned the same photo on her Instagram account.

An unnamed Us Weekly source claimed that Shelton first asked Stefani’s dad for permission before popping the question. The No Doubt lead singer was also glad that her partner went the traditional route when proposing, the insider added.

“Blake had the ring custom-designed, and asked permission from her dad before asking Gwen. It meant so much to Gwen that Blake was so traditional about it,” the source said.

Another insider told the outlet that Shelton proposed to Stefani a few days before they shared the good news on social media. The country singer got down on one knee in Oklahoma, where the couple quarantined together before they moved to the Los Angeles abode that they bought in October last year.

“They are very happy to be settled at last in their family home. Gwen wanted to be moved in for the start of the school year, even though the kids are doing school at home because of COVID-19. … They are truly happy as a family and it’s the new beginning Gwen needed,” a tipster said when the couple moved to their new home.

Stefani and Shelton began dating in 2015 after working together as coaches on “The Voice.” Both of them had been going through divorces at the time – him from Miranda Lambert and the blonde singer from Gavin Rossdale, with whom she shares three children.

Although it took five years before Shelton popped the question, Stefani hinted of a possible marriage in 2018 when she revealed that she loves weddings.

“I do, I think about it all the time,” Stefani said when host Ellen DeGeneres pushed for the idea.

“You know what, I love weddings. The kids love him, we love him, everybody loves him,” she added.
